"As Assistant Director of Supplies and Transport of 3rd Carpathian Division, Major Pietrzak had a most difficult task to successfully maintain his division during the Monte Cassino Operations. The scarcity of Roads and the fact that they were continually under enemy observation and shell fire, demanded a careful organisation in reloading, using Jeeps, Mule, and Porters.

Major Pietrzak not only organised successfully a network of supply lines but himself continually supervised their functioning and visited the supply and ammunition points in the forward areas. Thus ensuring his Division a smooth running supply system under most difficult circumstances."
