The following newspaper excerpt (dated 16.04.1943) describes why Kuhn received the Knight’s Cross…
“Oberleutnant Otto Kuhn… served as commander of a Silesian Panzergrenadier-Kompanie during the combat north of Orel. In this time he and his troops were able to repulse a total of 8 enemy attacks that were backed up by overwhelming numbers of soldiers and an hours-long preparatory barrage. Throughout the battle he [Kuhn] launched a total of 5 counterthrusts against the attacking enemy troops at the head of his Panzergrenadiers (who were themselves exhausted from days of ceaseless fighting by this time).”
