Lotze’s Knight’s Cross recommendation reads as follows…
“Hauptmann Lotze has resolved all manner of crises with the Bataillon that he personally assembled. Once, despite being badly wounded, he launched a counterattack on his own initiative with his badly battered Kompanien that managed to prevent a hostile breakthrough east of Soltau. Additional personnel documents related to him cannot be sent due to the enemy situation.”
Dr. Heinz Lotze's Heerespersonalamt-Verleihungsvorschlag (HPA-VV—Army Staff Office Nomination Recommendation) was ready for signature at the end of the war. According to the Association of Knight's Cross Recipients (OdR) the award was presented in accordance with the Dönitz-decree. This is illegal according to the Deutsche Dienststelle (WASt) and lacks legal justification. The presentation date was assigned by Walther-Peer Fellgiebel. Lotze was member of the OdR,
