Gerrit Aartsen was born on June 27th, 1921 as son to Gerrit Aartsen and Jannetje Aarsen (Barends). As his father he was an employee of the Nederlandsche Spoorwegen. He worked as rail mechanic and was a member of the resistance. He was arrested at Giethoorn on October 5th, 1944 and executed near Steenwijkerwold on October 6th.
