Biography

As a student, Ernst had stolen ammunition from a German storage facility and painted anti-German slogans on the walls of his school. He was a student at the Koloniale Landbouwschool in Deventer when he attempted to sail by canoe to England with his friend Jaap van Mesdag to join the Dutch armed forces.
He was arrested at sea on August 31, 1942.
