"On the night of April 17/18 this N.C.O. was operating as No.2 to Sgt.H. Wood in a Mk.VI canoe. When given the order to go in to attack Cpl. Kilkenny started his engine and steered the canoe on to the target - a large enemy pontoon full of equipment and troops. His coolness even when under fire enabled his No.1 to complete the destruction of the craft. It was this N.C.O.'s first operation and he displayed outstanding determination."
