Early on in the war, Tineke Guilonard became involved in various resistance activities and later became one of the members of the Amsterdam resistance group CS-6.
On 17 September 1943, she was arrested at her hiding place. After being detained for months at the Havenstraat detention centre in Amsterdam, she ended up in Camp Vught on 2 January 1944. There she experienced the Bunkerdrama. When Camp Vught was evacuated in September 1944, she was deported to Ravensbrück camp and, after several transports, was finally liberated in Salzwedel.
On 29 May 1983, she and her husband Frank Wibaut received the Yad Vashem award, for their resistance work during World War II. In 1989, she received the Medal of Honour of the Foundation for Artists' Resistance and in 1995 the Dr J.P. van Praag Prize. In 2007, a bridge was named after her in Amsterdam Nieuw-West: the Tineke Guilonard Bridge. She described her wartime experiences in the book "Zo ben je daar".
