"Captain Wilfred A. Ebbutt performed outstanding services from November 1944 to March 1945 as Senior Bombardment Liaison Officer operating in support of United States ground forces on the right flank of the Sixth Army Group, near the Franco-Italian border. Confronted with the task of coordination observation, communication and fire of a fleet of four cruisters and ten destroyers from French, British and United States Navies, in support of United States ground forces, Captain Ebbutt accomplished excellent results in a superior manner. As a result, this fleet delivered effective firesupport far behind the enemy front lines, and in direct support of ground forces defending the most vulnerable section of the right flank of the Sixth Army Group. Captain Ebbutt's excellent judgement and professional competence contributed largely to the successful defence of the sector and further lowering the morale of enemy troops opposing us."
