Son of William and Mary Campbell, of Liverpool; husband of Sheila Maud Campbell, of Dingle, Liverpool.
Harold Campbell lived at 8 Cleopas Street, Liverpool when war broke out. He enlisted in February 1939 at the RE (TA) at 18 years old. He was transferred to S/L (Search Light) Regiment RA and mustered as a Gunner) and then posted to 350 Searchlight Battery, 38 Searchlight Regiment. After being in the 38 Searchlight Regiment from September 1939 he was transferred to W Company 19 ITC (Infantry Training Centre) on 2 March 1944.
According to the CWGC he was in 5th Battalion Dorsetshire Regiment - however his service record shows 25th August 1944 posted from W Company ITC to 41 RHU & TOS (X) (iv) then on 6 September 1944 transferred to 4th Battalion Dorsetshire Regiment. The next entry says 4 Dorsetshire Regiment: Killed in Action NWE 25.9.44 and was field burried in an orchard behind a school [Oude Jongensschool] in Driel.
