Biography

Former Legionnaire, he was assigned to the 1st Marine Infantry Battalion when it was created in July 1940.
Within this unit, he fought in Libya during the Desert War from September 1940.
His actions earned him to receive the Cross of the Liberation from the hands of General de Gaulle on May 26, 1941 in Qastina, Palestine.

Promoted to Lance Corporal, he took part in the battle of Bir-Hakeim and was reported missing during it on June 11, 1942.
