Biography

Arthur was born on June 13 1922 in Wayne Alberta, the son of Arthur Hutton Moorby and Ellen Moorby nee Bradbury (both English) of Camrose, Alberta. They were married on June 9 1920 in Round Hill Alberta. His sisters were Hilda Margaret and Dorothy Ellen Moorby and his brother Edward John Moorby already deceased in 1938 age two of accidental poisoning.

He was a student and member of the Church of England and his sports were hockey, swimming and baseball and his hobbies were fretwork and mechanics.

He enlisted on April 22 1941 in Edmonton and he went thereafter on November 5 1942 overseas to the UK.

Arthur was killed in action on Saturday June 17 1944 just four days after his 22nd birthday due to a crash near Alphen a/d Rijn before or after an attack on Sterkrade near Oberhausen in Germany. His other fallen RCAF crew members were F/O Earl S. Dwyer age 22 in grave 13-1-10, P/O Stanley K. Kaiser age 25 in grave 13-1-5, F/O James C. Lummis age 23 in grave 13-1-2, Sgt Thomas D. Turner age 29 in grave 13-9-191 and Sgt Norman E. Moore age 31 in grave 13-9-193. The fallen RAF Volunteer Reserve crew member was Sgt John H. Bolton age 28 in grave 13-1-4.

They unveiled in 2018 a monument in Alphen a/d Rijn for the whole fallen crew.

He served with the 434 Sqdn Royal Canadian Air Force.
