Citation:
"Lt.Col SOLLY-FLOOD was parachuted into enemy occupied YUGOSLAVIA on 19th September 1943 to join the British Mission to General MIHAILOVIC commended by Brigadier C.D. ARMSTRONG, C.B.E., D.S.O., M.C. Having carried out his duties at all times to the entire satisfaction of his commanding Officer, he was evacuated with that mission in May, 1944.
After his return to GREAT BRITAIN this officer volunteered to be dropped by parachute as Second-in-Command of a British observer party in enemy-occupied POLAND. This operation took place in December, 1944. He lived and worked surrounded by German Security forces, and he showed courage and devotion to duty. His appreciation of the military situation in the areas in which they operated ensured the safety of his party.
Although attacked by a considerable force of German infantry and armour employed for the sole purpose of capturing the members of this Mission, they were able to evade capture under fire and continued their most valuable work.
This officer showed outstanding qualities of courage and reliability and it is recommended that he be appointed an Officer in the Order of the British Empire (Military DIvision)."
