Biography

Andrew was born on May 16 1918 in Seattle USA, the son of Andrew Lennox (Newfoundland) and Esther Barbara Lennox nee Schaefer (American) of Innisfail, Alberta. He had three sisters.

He was a student and member of the United Church. He spoke English and had knowledge and could read French and Latin. His sports were field sports, rifle shooting, fishing, tennis, swimming, horseshoes and bowling and his hobby was philately.

He enlisted on October 19 1936 in Edmonton the Non-Permanent Active Militia of Canada and he enlisted on October 25 1940 in Calgary then the RCAF and he went thereafter on August 24 1941 from Canada overseas to the UK.
Andrew was killed in action on Thursday March 26 1942 age 23 due to a crash northeast of Vlaardingen before or after an attack on Essen in Germany. The other fallen RCAF crew member was F/Sgt William M. Pipher age 24 in grave 1-19. The other fallen RAF Volunteer Reserve crew members were Sgt David J. White age 20 in grave 1-20, Sgt Alfred Jelly age 29 in grave 1-21 and Sgt Ronald H.J. Barrie age 21 in grave 1-22. The other fallen and missed RAF Volunteer Reserve crew member and therefore mentioned at the Runnymede Memorial in England was Sgt Eric C. Groves at panel 84.

On his headstone: "LIFE IS EVER LORD OF DEATH AND LOVE CAN NEVER LOSE ITS OWN"

He was awarded on July 7 1941 the Air Observer’s Badge.

His name is mentioned together with the other fallen crew members at a monument in Vlaardingen.

He served with the 142 (R.A.F.) Sqdn Royal Canadian Air Force.
