He remained in this role as the Germans mobilized, heading his troops to the Western Front as they marched under command of Fifth Field Army commander Crown Prince Wilhelm. Eduard von Below later replaced Adolf von Oven as commander of V. Army Corps. Von Below reportedly died in Waynesville, Missouri.
