"This officer has completed 115 sorties as a captain of aircraft between Wunsdorf and Gatow on the Berlin air lift. Flight s were undertaken in all weather conditions and with heavily laden aircraft. The large number of landings and take-offs under conditions of intense airfield traffic has demanded a high degree of skill and concentration. The fact that the large number of sorties have been completed without accident reflects great credit on the captain, who has shown keenness and intelligence, and whose performance has been an object lesson in good flying. As a York pilot, this officer has set a splendid example to the others by his courage, doggedness and determination and his very skilful flying, frequently in bad weather and at night. His clear consistency alone, apart from his personal qualities, have done much to maintain the morale of the other York pilots in a difficult, physically exhausting and frequently dangerous task."
