"Flight Lieutenant Hallett is a very experienced signaller in Transport Command who has been flying as a member of a 38 Group crew on the Berlin air lift. He has been outstandingly cheerful and keen throughout his period on these duties and he has now completed 95 sorties in all kinds of weather conditions. His work as aircrew has been of a consistently high standard and his example has been of great value in the maintenance of a high standard of morale. He has displayed consistently a high technical skill and a steady, unswerving devotion to duty which has set the standard for the other aircrew signallers and encouraged them to emulate his performance. Among the qualities which have also distinguished him from his fellow crew members are his unfailing keenness and cheerful disregard of his own welfare in his determination to complete his task successfully no matter how difficult and hazardous have been the conditions imposed by the weather, and the conditions particularly during the past few weeks have indeed called for determination and skill. His high quality and endurance have been proof against all the personal hardships imposed by a stern, unending routine and have been a potent contribution to the success of the air lift. His services are deemed to be fully deserving of recognition."
