On the 04.02.1944 Kloß and his Gebirgsjäger Bataillon were positioned in the Hp. Tok bridgehead, having been brought to the area by rail transport. On this day Kloß and his men expanded the area around the bridgehead to the north and west up until the evening. With this action they were able to thwart the local Soviet intentions to compress the bridgehead and thereby get one step closer to destroying the German forces around Nikopol.

Major Kloß would be decorated with the Knight’s Cross for his defense of Hp. Tok.
