Awarded for the bitter defense of the village of Laroche-en-Ardenne by his Kompanie during the Battle of the Bulge. Klüser and his Pioniere were able to fend off all opposing attacks and in doing so prevent an Allied breakthrough, all while inflicting high losses and destroying a number of tanks in close combat in the process.
