"Kleine Berlin" (Little Berlin) was an underground air raid bunker complex and composed of an Italian side and a German side. There were first aid rooms and toilet facilities. There were no non-Germans alloud to enter the German side of the complex, which had a secret passage to the villa of SS- und Polizeiführer Odilo Globocnik. On 30 April 1945, Trieste revolted and an unknown number of German soldiers decided to hide within the deep corridors of "Kleine Berlin". The partisans and insurgents encircled the complex but never attempted to break into it. The German garrison quickly surrendered.
