This memorial (Le monument Belvédère) commemorates the killed soldiers of the 1. Hessian Fieldartillerie Regiment No. 11 (1. Kurhessischen Feldartillerie-Regiments Nr. 11), which fought in the Battle of Woerth in the Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871), on 6 August 1870.
The monument build in 1913 is on the spot of one of the German gun batteries.
The canon barrels placed in the monument were used in the battle and should expressed n"no more war" but we are already at the eve of WW 1 .
