This memorial (Monument Guerre Franco-Prussienne) commemorates the residents of the deprtement Ardennes, who gave their lives in the Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871).
The monument to the dead of 1870 was erected after a national dues and was inaugurated in 1897.
"Honor and gratitude to those who die while defending their country"
It depicts a Glory crowning a dying soldier with laurel (the group "for the fatherland"), showing two plaques:
- the defense of the Bazeille bridge
- the attack of the African fighters (Floing fight)
France, represented as a female figure with a bishop's crosier chisels an inscription
" Impavidus numero victus": (fearless, he was defeated by numbers)
