This memorial commemorates the soldiers of the Leib-Grenadier-Regiment "König Friedrich Wilhelm III" (1. Brandenburgisches) Nr. 8 who were killed in the Battle of Mars-la-Tour (also known as Battle of Vionville or in Germany as the Battle of Rezonville), on 16 August 1870.
