Remembrance Stone Meeting Wilhelm I and Comte Benedetti

This memorial stone shows the date and time (13 July 1870, 09:10) of the meeting between King Wilhelm I of Prussia and the French ambassador, Comte Benedetti.
During this meeting, Wilhelm I denied the French demand that Hohenzollern dynasty should for ever renounce its candidacy for the throne of Spain. The Prussian Chancellor Otto von Bismarck was informed and he published an shorter version, making it more provoking to the French of the conversation. This led, together with the political crisis concerning the candidacy for the Spanish throne, to the outbreak of the Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871).
