This house was the epicenter of much of the fighting during the Battle of New Market. After the battle, it was used as a field hospital. Het house, with period room displays, can be visited and reveals family life during the American Civil War.
The Battle of New Market took place on 15 May 1864. The battle resulted in a Confederate victory. In the battle, the Union lost 841 men (killed, wounded, missing or captured), the Confederates 520 men.
