Memorial and Graves VMI Cadets

This memorial at the Virginia Military Institute Museum, at the base of the Virginia Mourning Her Dead statue, commemorates the 10 VMI Cadets killed at the battle of New Market. Of them, 6 are also buried here.
The Battle of New Market took place on 15 May 1864. The battle resulted in a Confederate victory. In the battle, the Union lost 841 men (killed, wounded, missing or captured), the Confederates 520 men.
