This memorial commemorates the Confederates who were killed on this location in the Battle of Davis Bridge. They are also buried here. On the Davis Bridge Battlefield are three graves of Union Soldiers who were killed in the Battle of Davis Bridge.
The Battle of Davis Bridge (also known as Hatchie’s Bridge) took place on 5 October 1862 when Confederate forces wanted to use the bridge to cross Hatchie River. The battle resulted in a Union victory. The Union lost about 500 men (dead, wounded, missing or captured), the Confederates about 400 men.
