This Visitor Center gives information about the Wilson's Creek National Battlefield and the Battle of Wilson's Creek.
The Battle of Wilson's Creek took place on 10 August 1861. The battle resulted in a Confederate victory. On the Union side, 258 men were killed, 873 wounded and 186 missing/captured. On the Confederate side, 279 men were killed and 951 wounded.
The battle caused the death of Nathaniel Lyon, the first Union general killed in action in the American Civil War.
