This triumphal arch (L'Arc de Triomphe de l'Etoile) is about 50 meters high, 45 meters wide and 22 meters deep. It is the third largest in the world. Construction began in 1806, in honor of Napoleon's victory at Austerlitz. Much later, around 1836 under King Louis-Philippe, the construction was completed.
In the inside of the arch are engraved the names of 558 important generals. Above the arch there are thirty shields with Napoleon's most important victories.
