Memorial Lawn to the Belgians who were deported to Germany during the war and did not survive the harsh living conditions there. They were rounded up by the German army and sent to Germany to boost the national labour force.
Near this memorial lawn is the grave of Charles Simonet, who was shot by the Germans for being a member of an intelligence-gathering network, and which stands imposingly among the graves of civilians killed during the Battle of Mons on 23 August 1914.
