Memorial Prince Leopold Victor Friedrich von Hessen-Homburg

This monument, designed by Schinkel, commemorates Prince Leopold Victor Friedrich von Hessen-Homburg who was killed in action in the Battle of Großgörschen.
The Battle of Lützen/Großgörschen occurred on 2 May 1813 between the French army and Prussian/Russian troops and resulted in a victory for the French. On the French side, the losses to about 20,000 men (dead or wounded), on the Prussian/Russian side approximately 11,500 men.
