This memorial (the Drummer of El Bruc) is inspired by the life of Isidre Lluçà i Casanoves (1791-1809). His story created the Catalan legend of the Timbaler del Bruc and he became a national hero of the Peninsular War.
This memorial commemorates the battles at El Bruc, on 6 and 14 June 1808, which were won by the Spanish. The battles were part of the Peninsular War, which took place from 1808 to 1814 between the Spanish, Portuguese and British on the one hand and the French under command of Napoleon on the other side.
