Memorial Jose F. Valdez

Jose F. Valdez received the Medal of Honor for his actions one kilometre from here on January 23rd, 1945. While on patrol, Valdez killed three enemy soldiers and forced a tank to withdraw. Two German companies then attacked the six Americans. Valdez covered the successful withdrawal, but he was wounded and died three weeks later at age 20.
