Fort Lawton was an American Army-base which was used in the Second World War as embarkation center of soldiers and as a Army Transportation Corps base. There was also a large hospital. More than a million soldiers passed Fort Lawton on their way to the Pacific battle-area. After the was , the base was used as demobilization center.
There was also a prisoner-of-war camp on the base, for about 500 POWs. During riots by Afro-American soldiers, an Italian POW, Guglielmo Olivotto, was lynched.
Most buildings of the base are demolished or used elsewhere after the war.
