Westwall - Bunker Remains Rehbüchel

This site is a pair of 2 partly buried bunkers astride the road to Nützheim and which also overlook a line of dragon's teeth, some 300m away towards the Belgian border.

Combat Command A (CCA) of the 3rd US Armoured Division assaulted this sector on the first day of the general attack on the Westwall, or Siegfried Line, on 13 Sept 1944. The infantry found themselves without tank support due to the dragon's teeth which the armour could not cross. Luckily a few hundred meters away, local farmers had buried part of the line in order to get to their fields and thus the tanks were able to use the same method. The US forces advanced several more kilometres into Germany that day.
