Dutch War Grave Roman Catholic Cemetery

The Roman Catholic Cemetery contains the Dutch war grave of:

Johannes Antonius de Vries, member of the Resistance
born November 13, 1919 in Steenwijk
executed on 13-10-1944 in Kallenkoot

Also here is the grave of:
Albertus van Olphen, member of the Resistance
born June 22, 1916 in Weststellingwerf
died January 26, 1952 in Steenwijk

Bertus was the founder of the Resistance Group Steenwijk (1943), leader of the local gang, organized campaigns for people in hiding. He was captured by the Sicherheitsdienst and escaped from Erica camp near Ommen.

The grave has since been cleared, the remains have been buried in a collective grave at the back of the cemetery.
