"The Point" Memorial 1st American Infantry Division

On September 3, 1918, the Argonne Offensive took place with the Meuse at stake under the leadership of the French Marshal Foch.
During this offensive he received the support of the American Expeditionary Force led by General Pershing.

On November 6, 1918, American troops attacked the German line between La Besace and Beaumont and drove the Germans back to the right bank of the Meuse opposite Villemontry (Mouzon) and Autrecourt-et-Pouron.
By the night of 6/7 September they had taken control of the entire Left Bank as far as Wadelincourt. As a result, the Germans were driven back to Sedan.

The monument called "The Point" marks the point to which the American troops advanced.
It stands on a verge on the road from Sedan to Pont-Maugis and is in the shape of a column topped by an American eagle that wraps its wings around the insignia of the 1st Division.
At the foot is a bronze plaque describing the course of the operation.
At the front of the column is a list of the names of the fallen and missing per company.
