War Memorial The Battle of the Silver Helmets Halen

This monument commemorates the Belgian regiments who fought during the Battle of Halen on 12 August 1914.

In 1924, at the 10th Commemoration of the Battle of the Silver Helmets, this equestrian statue was unveiled by King Albert I. He and also General de Witte gave a speech here. According to artist sculptor Jules Jourdain, the image symbolizes the chivalrous spirit that inspired the army and the entire country when they answered the call of the king and stood up against the attacker. The rider refers to the fact that it was a cavalry division that won the battle in Halen. It is remarkable that they are dealing with a medieval knight. Rider and image are directed to the East, in the direction of the German attacker.
