These memorial stones are placed here for war victims who where deported and/or killed in World War II. They are often placed as an alternative to the official They are often placed as an alternative to the official Stolpersteine of the Gunter Demnig project. Where there is no Stolperstein but people still want to commemorate, this memorial stone is used. The stones are in most cases laid before the last known home address of the victims.

In Amersfoort are a Memorial Stone for:

WILLEM VAN HUNNIK. murdered on May 3, 1945 in Treysa.

Willem has been active in the underground since the beginning of the Second World War. As a result of betrayal, he was arrested on 24 June 1943 in Maartensdijk and deprived of his freedom by the enemy. Former soldiers who, despite an explicit prohibition, participated in the resistance were deported to a detention center for foreign soldiers in Treysa (part of the municipality of Schwalmstadt in the state of Hesse). Willem was imprisoned in enemy concentration camps until the end of the war.

Willem van Hunnik just experiences the liberation in Germany. The Americans take the weakened Willem to a hospital. Willem van Hunnik died of abuse and exhaustion in Treysa on May 3, 1945. His last resting place is on the Dutch field of honor at the cemetery Waldfriedhof in the Oberrad district of Frankfurt am Main. Willem van Hunnik was posthumously awarded the resistance memorial cross in 1983.
