Erlestoke House used to be standing on the current location of the Erlestoke prison. This building was badly damaged in 1950 and was used prior and during the Second World War for the 'Senior Officers School' and later for Operation Bardsea as STS 63, an operation for dropping Polish emigres into occupied France.
A large number of barracks and other facilities that were used for the same purposes were also located across the road. These buildings are no longer there.
