of both world wars
1914-1918
1939-1945
The citizens of Lohausen
The monument was erected in 1925 (Inauguration November 8th, 1925) for the fallen soldiers of the districts Lohausen and Stockum in WW1. Donations were collected – 1.500 Mark were later donated by the City of Düsseldorf and the district of Kaiserswerth.
The monuments’ Diorite base from the Westerwald weighs 7 tonsand ought to allegorically symbolize an indestructible unity. The eagle symbolizes the grief for every dead soldier – 55 fallen soldiers in total – and simultaneously the raised eagle’s head view for new hope of a later life.
The original bronze plate with the 55 names was later replaced by a plate honouring the victims of WW1 and 2.
