Battery Tolles was a part of Fort Worden, which was part of the harbor defense of Puget Sound and was built from 1903 to 1906. The battery was operational until 1945. It was equipped with four 6" guns. During the Second World War, most of the gun emplacements of Fort Worden were modified for anti aircraft guns, which replaced the outdated coastal artillery pieces. Two of the 6" guns of Battery Tolles were replaced by modern 6" guns.
Nowadays the battery is part of the Fort Worden State Park and can be visited.
