War Memorial Clayes & Memorial Crash 29 May 1943

This memorial (Monument aux Morts) commemorates the residents of Clayes who gave their lives in World War I.

On 29 May 1943, the American B-17 42-3042 crashed down in Clayes. Seven crewmembers died in the crash. The aircraft was B-17E 42-3052 of 337th Bomb Squadron, 96th Bomb Group, Eighth Air Force, Grafton Underwood, Northamptonshire.
