This memorial commemorates Jean Moulin (20 June 1899 - 8 July 1943) who worked in Chartres as Prefect, until 17 June 1940. He was a high-profile member of the Resistance in France during World War II and an important symbol of the Resistance due to his role in unifying the French resistance. He was killed by the Gestapo.
