On the churchyard of Nieuwkapelle are the graves of veterans of the First World War.
There is also the grave of Marie-Thérèse Favarger-Tack
During the First World War the 78-year-old Marie-Thérèse Favarger-Tack lived in a house alongside the frontline but refused to move from this dangerous position. She takes care of the Belgian soldiers in the trenches near her house. The troops called her "The Soldiers' Mother".
She died in 1922 and was buried with military honors at the churchyard of Nieuwkapelle.
