Memorial 3rd Foot Artillery Regiment

The 3rd Foot Artillery Regiment "General Feldzeugmeister" (Brandenburg) had been based in Mainz since 1865 and took part in the Franco-Prussian War and served throughout the First World War as part of XVIII Corps of the 4th Army. The regiment was disbanded in 1918.

The monument, constructed in 1934, sits atop the surviving part of the Fort Josef bastion (constructed 1710-1730). It consists of a stone cannon (resembling a Krupp 15 cm sfh 02 howitzer) with an inscription around the inside of the parapet reading: "To the fallen during the World War of 1914-1918 of the Foot Artillery Regiment General - Feldzeugmeister No. 3 and its war formations.".

Below, on the north face of the bastion is a representation of the Prussian Eagle holding a sword and lightning bolts in its claws. Beneath the eagle is a copy of the above inscription:
