Text on the plaque, on the former entrance of the Roquette-prison
From the call of General de Gaulle, 18 June 1940, until the liberation of Paris, 25 August 1944, 4000 resistance fighters were imprisoned at this place because they had fought against the occupying forces. They contributed to the liberation of France.
