War Memorial Vigneulles-lès-Hattonchâtel

Opposite the town hall is the obelisk-shaped monument that commemorates the residents of Vigneulles-lès-Hattonchâtel who gave their lives in the First and Second World Wars.
At first glance it seems like an ordinary memorial monument like any other, but in fact it is a double monument. The back shows the statue of American lieutenant Moses Taylor, who died of his wounds on March 24, 1918 and is buried in the cemetery of Vigneulles.
Moses Taylor (born June 8, 1897) was the son of a wealthy New York banker, who later contributed financially to the reconstruction of Vigneulles.
Moses' mother financed the monument with a plaque at the base for her son.
The number of lime trees next to the monument corresponds to the number of Americans killed in Vigneulles on September 13, 1918, the day of its liberation by the American army.
