JAN VAN DIEST, murdered on 21-03-1945 in Wöbbelin.
Jan van Diest finds himself in resistance circles in the city, but when the ground gets too hot for him, he goes into hiding. He is arrested by treason and taken prisoner in camp Amersfoort. On February 2, 1945 he is transported to Neuengamme. Shortly before the end of the war, he ended up in the Konzentrationslager Wöbbelin, built by prisoners in haste, near Neuengamme. He died on March 21, 1945. Jan was only 20 years old.
This memorial stone is here for war victims, deported and /or murdered in the Second World War. In Amersfoort, memorial stones are also awarded to resistance fighters who lost their lives.
