Memorial B-17G 'Mission Belle'

On 1 December 1943, the American B-17G 'Mission Belle', of the 535th Squadron of the 381st Bombardment Group, crashed in the river Lek, near this memorial. Three crewmembers were killed, the other seven were taken prisoner-of-war.

The monument consists of a sculpture of the aircraft with three stone columns behind it. At the top of each column is a photo and the name of one of the three killed crew members. There are four boulders in front of the monument, each with a plaque with Dutch and English text. On the leftmost boulder is the history of the crash of the B-17G 'Mission Belle'. The crew members are standing on the two boulders in the middle. There is a photo of each crew member, the position in the aircraft, the date of birth and date and place of death. The rightmost boulder contains the history of the salvage of the aircraft and the killed crew members.

The names of the fallen:
Harland V. Sunde
Doyle C. McCutchen
John A. Healey
