On 1 February 1944, Franz Kutschera (SS and Reichs Polition Chief of Warsaw) was assassinated by a group of Armia Krajowa members. After the assassination two members of this group were intercepted at the Kierbedź bridge. After a short, hopeless fight they jumped into the Vistula river where they were either shot or drowned. This memorial plaque is devoted to their heroic deeds.
